I’m super excited to share with you my latest fashion overhaul! Last month marked my one year anniversary of dating my boyfriend so I really wanted to spice things up with an outfit that was sure to make my boyfriend go…
I wanted something different from my normal date night look but something that still accentuated the SEXY in me – especially my long legs. And I knew just the person to reach out to – Keyva Jo Fontnette from http://www.keyvajo.com.
I have been following the beautifully talented and oh-so-stylish Keyva for a while now and I always love the looks that she puts together. As a fashion and lifestyle blogger, Keyva is not afraid to try new things and I knew she would be the perfect person to style me. So I sent her an email and was happy that she was just as excited as I was about this opportunity!

Earrings: Charming Charlie
Without hesitation, Keyva sent me two looks from head to toe – including the outfit, accessories and shoes! I was able to sub a few things on her list with things I already had in my closet and together we created the perfect look with this beautiful dress from Lulus! I paired the dress with some beautiful rose gold shoes and accessories and I was all set to make a statement for my anniversary.
I enjoyed collaborating with Keyva on this perfect date night look to spice things up. I told her I wanted something sexy but classy and in a color that I usually don’t wear. I also let her know I wasn’t afraid to show a little skin haha. Not only did she listen to what I wanted but she completely nailed this look if I do say so myself! I felt like a sexy goddess walking into the restaurant with my boyfriend next to me and I can’t thank you enough Keyva for making me feel extra sexy on my special day.

I’m baaacckkkk!!! It’s Videllia here and I’m super excited to FINALLY begin my podcast channel! I’m hoping that by introducing a podcast format for some of my blogs, it will provide you all with a different communication medium in which to listen and interact with me. And if you like it and want to hear more podcasts or possibly see some Vlogs from me be sure to let me know!!!
Today’s podcast is called, “Nicki Minaj – Gospel Artist” and I will be sharing my thoughts on the new song “I’m Getting Ready” – a gospel song which features Nicki Minaj.
Click here to listen to the podcast or you can just read the full post below.
Let’s get started…
The other day as my boyfriend and I were in my house getting ready to go to a baseball game, Tasha Cobbs’ new gospel song, “I’m Getting Ready” featuring Nicki Minaj began to play on the speaker.
I had already seen different memes and comments on social media that Nicki Minaj was on a gospel track and like so many of you, I just didn’t know how I would feel. I like a few of Nicki Minaj’s songs but mixing the two – secular and gospel – together? Yeah…the Christian in me just couldn’t get with the idea at all.
Ignoring my preconceived notions, I continued to listen to the track as my boyfriend and I engaged in a healthy debate over it. However, as it was playing, I felt a different twinge in my spirit. One I knew all too well. The one where God speaks the truth to my own poor ratchet soul. And you know what I heard?
“WHO ARE YOU TO JUDGE?”
I want to challenge you all with that same question – who are YOU to judge? You see, it’s very easy for religious people (not just Christians) to be quick to judge something or someone who doesn’t appear on the outside the way we think God would want. We think that just because Nicki sings secular music for a living that she somehow doesn’t know Jesus or rather – can’t express herself to Christ. If you believe this for one second, then you sir or ma’am are doing something that God tells us we ought not to do. You are judging this woman and her walk with Christ.
Matthew 7:1-3 from the NIV states, “do not judge or you too will be judged. For in the same way you judge others, you will be judged and with the measure you use, it will be measured to you. Why do you look at the speck of sawdust in your brother’s eye and pay no attention to the plank in your own eye.” Now flip it on over to John 8:7 part B where it also says, “he who is without sin, let him cast the first stone”.
It is NOT our place to tell Nicki she can’t sing gospel or to tell Tasha that she can’t have a secular artist on her record. While I understand the confusion this causes in terms of spirituality, especially when trying to bring people closer to Christ, at the end of the day, Nicki’s sins – whatever they are – are no greater or less than my sins which are no greater or less than your sins. The Bible literally tells us the measure by which we judge others is the same measure by which we will be held accountable.
Think about it. Have you not taken your sinful self to church one Sunday morning singing praises to God when just last night you were out with God knows who doing God knows what? So what does that say about you? The same concerns you have about Nicki being on a gospel track are the same concerns you should have about your own hot-and-cold, lukewarm, straddling the fence type self? Isn’t is funny how quickly we forget our own sins?
This post was not to bash Nicki. And it’s also not to bash the many religious people out there who stand by their own convictions in wanting a clear distinct line between secular and spiritual. HOWEVER, this post is meant to encourage you all to stop thinking like the sinful creatures we all are and to start thinking like our heavenly Father intended.
Jesus had to check me REAL quick. Like I said, before even hearing the song I just knew that I wasn’t going to agree but after hearing it and letting GOD speak to my heart (instead of the comments on social media), I realized the only difference between what Nicki did and what I do is that her singing her praises to God is publicized because of her status whereas mine as just in my church or home. At the end of the day, she, you and I are all sinful by design as the Bible says we were born into sin and shaped into iniquity (Psalm 51:5).
What’s her relationship like to Christ? I don’t know.
Why did Tasha want her on the record? I don’t know.
And who knows, maybe there are people out there who follow Nicki and who are dead in their sin and will listen to this track and hear something that resonates with their spirit whether from Nicki or Tasha and want to be saved. I. Don’t. Know.
You don’t know. None of us do. But the good thing about God being God and me recognizing that I am NOT God, is that I don’t have to know – that’s between her and Christ. And it’s time that we – Christians, believers, religious, spiritual or whatever classification you fall under – learn to walk in our place and let God reign in his!
It’s God’s place to pass judgment. Not ours. So why don’t we start by learning to judge less.
What do you think? Have you heard the song? What is your take on it? Please include that in the comments section and let me know. As always, be sure you have subscribed to my website at www.only1v.com and are following me on social media @only1lady_v. Muah!
One thing that I’ve learned in all of my years of setting goals for myself is to share those goals with others and have them hold me accountable. Therefore, I shared with you all my goals for the beginning of the year on January 1st, 2017. You can read that original post here. Then in Q1, I gave you all an update, which you can read here.
As stated before, each and every quarter I’m going to revisit these goals to ensure I’m staying on track of my New Year vision and to make sure you keep track on your vision as well!
Here’s an update on my progress on my blogging goals:
As of today, I partially have achieved my goal to post on my site at least once a week. Fell off a little in March-May as that was the busiest time of year at work for me, but picking that back up now.
I did officially create my podcast channel but am still working on getting my podcasts up and running. This was something I said I wanted to do by Q2 but alas I have not. Fingers crossed for this to be done by Q3. Be sure you’re following it on Soundcloud here. It will contain the same content as my blog posts but is for those out there who’d rather listen than read. I also plan to introduce a new series especially for women that you don’t want to miss!
I kicked off my first giveaway in February and it was met with a great response rate. I also just recently reached 1,000 followers on Instagram and will be doing a giveaway to thank all of those lovely people here soon. Be sure to follow me on Instagram for your chance of winning.
I partnered with two other bloggers and hosted giveaways with them which helped me reach my network and collab goal for the year. I also did a joint Vlog with another blogger in April which was posted to YouTube! My first Vlog! You can view that here.
I finished designing the first draft of my T-shirt and hoping to complete and finalize it for sale this summer.
I have finalized my site logo (I think – I’m always changing my mind haha) and still working on creating those blogging business cards which I need.
I have finally scheduled my first photo shoot to take place THIS weekend which is pushing me out of my comfort zone. Can’t wait to share those pics with you all.
Wow. I’ve made some great progress so far in 2017! I am still working on my e-book and increasing my visibility and other goals but so far so good!
In terms of my personal goals, I have been grinding hard and being more consistent as well as working on my relationship with God (which has taken a back seat to everything else in life. Yes, I know this is NOT good so I’m getting back to making HIM a priority). I’ve also taken a few trips already (Orlando and Costa Rica). I still haven’t taken a new class (like jewelry making) but it’s on my list!
My fitness has picked back up and I’ve been able to get at least 2 workouts in a week, with most weeks being 3 workouts.
As I reflect over this second quarter, I am pretty excited about what I’ve accomplished so far. I still have more work to do but we’re off to a good start! I’ve also added a few additional goals – the biggest being to increase my Instagram following to at least 1,500 by end of year and to write my eBook. What series would you like to see me write about?
Now what about you? How are you doing with your New Year’s Goals? Let me know through the comments section. If you’ve fallen off, it’s not too late to start! I’ll be checking on you again in the third quarter so best of luck!
I was talking to someone the other day about celebrating their upcoming birthday. They responded, “it’s just another day. Anything that I can do on this day, I can do on any day.” But a birthday is not JUST another day. It is ANOTHER BLESSING.
In fact, any day that we are all so fortunate enough to see and breathe life again here on this Earth should be considered another blessing. And we should learn to appreciate and celebrate those blessings. No, I’m not saying that we need to have a big party to celebrate each day as though it is our birthday. However, I am saying that we ought to take time to reflect and give reverence to God, thanking him for life.
I mean, in this last month along, we have heard all of the following incidents:
And that doesn’t even include all of the things that occur in our neighborhoods that often don’t make it to mainstream media. In this same past week, I, too, found myself almost in a severe car accident. Fortunately, I was alert enough to swerve from other cars and drive onto the median. I was blessed that I didn’t hit anyone or anything while trying to avoid getting into a wreck.
I was BLESSED.
And so are you. There’s a quote that says, “every day may not be good but there is good in every day”. Now I want you to re-read that quote.
Every day may not be good, but there IS GOoD in every day.”
Each day that you wake up, you ought to find something positive to thank God for. Stop sitting around saying today is just going to be another regular day because there are thousands of people who were not privileged to see this day. Stop taking your blessings for granted and learn to appreciate them.
Today, I am thankful for my life, my health, my loved ones and that God is continuing to grow me in my purpose. What are you thankful for on this blessed day?
I wanted to do something a little different and share with you all my latest beauty haul! I love fashion and beauty products and am slowly trying to expand my blog to include these items. So if you want to see a few things that are staples in my vanity, read more below.
1) Black Opium Perfume by YSL
This is by far my ABSOLUTE FAVORITE perfume on the market right now. It is a little
pricey (currently selling for $118 for the 3oz at Ulta and Sephora) but if you are a rewards member at either store, you can usually get it during one of their sales. I got mine for 20% off the original price and I’m so in love with it. I typically wear Fancy by Jessica Simpson (another favorite of mine and SUPER affordable – you can usually find it at your local Ross or TJ Maxx for $25 or less!) but when I came across this one, it surpassed Fancy as my #1 perfume. And my boyfriend absolutely loves it. J
2) Beauty Concepts Blending Sponge
I know people swear by the beauty blenders (original cost $20) but for those of you who are looking for something that is still good quality but at a much more affordable price, check out this blending sponge. I found it for $4 at my local TJ MAXX and I think it works just as well.
3) Too Faced Liquid Lipstick
I LOOOVEEE this lipstick. I don’t know why but I’ve been getting more into lipstains
versus your traditional lipsticks. I find that they are much more longer lasting and don’t smudge or wear off as much as a regular lipstick. And Too Faced is definitely one of the brands leading the way in the lipstain department. This usually retails at Sephora/Ulta for about $24 but you can catch it during a sell for up to 20% off depending on if you have status with Ulta or Sephora.
4) NYX Hydrating Primer
This is something new for me. I typically like the Laura Mercier primer but that can get a little pricey. Ulta was having a sale on all NYX products so I figured hey why not! And so far, so good! This primer is not only hydrating but it also doesn’t cause my makeup to slide off. I have pretty much normal skin where I sometimes get a little oily in the Tzone area and this primer works for me. If you’re super oily this probably wouldn’t be the best primer for you as it may cause your makeup to run off but if you have dry to normal skin you definitely want to try this! And guess what? It retails for about $13! Such a steal!
5) NYX Skinny Mascara
One of my favorite YouTubers @thechicnatural used this one time in her tutorial and I’ve been wanting it since then. I don’t use this on an everyday basis but moreso when I’m stepping out and want to give my eyes that extra pop!!! It’s also super affordable, retailing for under $10.
6) NYX Blotting Paper
I live in Texas. One day it is cold. The next it’s hot. One day it’s humid. The next it’s not. (Haha – I just felt like rhyming for a second lol). Anywho, blotting paper is my best friend! It helps to remove excess makeup while keeping your overall look flawless. And this was super affordable too, retailing for about $4.
7) IT Superhero Mascara
This is one of my favorite mascara’s! (My other is the Makeup Forever Smoky
Extravagant Mascara). Both retail for about $24. I love the way this elongates my lashes!!! Perfect for a normal workday or when I want to step out and don’t feel like putting on fake lashes.
8) Real Techniques Brush Set
Now I’m a huge fan of the Real Techniques brushes so when I saw this, I had to get it. I’m not the biggest fan of the overall design of this particular brush set but I found the entire thing at TJ Maxx for only $10. Given that most of the RT Brushes sell for more than $10 individually, I couldn’t leave the store without it! Perfect for my everyday routine.
9) Bella Beauty Makeup Brush Cleansing Pad
I have been wanting to buy a makeup cleansing brush set for a while now but haven’t really wanted to pay the money for a good one yet. I stumbled across these in TJ Maxx the other day and was like why not give it a try. It was only $10! So far I like it. I definitely will still buy a quality brush cleanser in the future but this will hold me over until then. The individual cleansers have a silicone base feel and does get in between the bristles of my makeup brushes. It doesn’t get them as clean as I would like without me having to put in a little extra effort but it’s doing the trick for now.
So that’s it lovelies. Let me know what you think about the products above or any other products you’d recommend. Also, let me know what other fashion and beauty posts you’d like to see from me in the future.
Over the past year, my health has seen some major changes, even resulting in me having to have surgery this past November. Just when I thought everything would be fine and I would finally get “good” news, I visit my doctor and just more news. More news and more procedures to follow.
What was my first reaction? To cry. I called my best friend and cried my little heart out. 2016 was probably one of the most toughest years of my life. I just wanted and needed a break. I’m not a perfect Christian but I’m far from the worst Christian. And I strive to daily live a life pleasing to God. Do I mess up? All the time. But I pick myself up and continue to press forward.
So why is this all happening to me…AGAIN? Why me, Lord? This just isn’t fair. I don’t deserve this.
After crying for what seemed like eternity, I took a long, deep breath and had to speak some positivity into my situation. (You see, sometimes, when we face things, we have to face them alone. That is why it is imperative for us to know God for ourselves so that we can speak positivity when the devil tries to bring us down.) Remembering all that I’ve learned over the years, I began to speak life into my situation:
I’m not a perfect Christian but I’m far from the worst Christian.
-Psalm 1:6 says: “For the Lord watches over the way of the righteous, but the way of the wicked leads to destruction.” Therefore, I don’t need to worry about anyone but myself. As long as I maintain my righteousness, that’s all that matters and God will continue to cover me just as he’s always done.
-Matthew 7:1: “Judge not that ye be not judged”. Who am I anyway to determine what is perfect vs what is worst? I shouldn’t put labels on people as Christians because in essence that is a symbol of my judgment of others.
Why is this happening to me…AGAIN? But why me Lord?
-Philippians 4:13: “I can do ALL things through Christ who strengthens me.”
-1 Peter 5:7: “Cast all of your anxiety onto him because he cares for you.”
All I need to do is cast this entire, heavy burden on the Lord and allow HIS strength to see me through.
This just isn’t fair. I don’t deserve all of this.
-James 1:2-4: “Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds,3 because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance.4 Let perseverance finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything.”
-2 Corinthians 4:8-9: “We are afflicted in every way, but not crushed; perplexed, but not driven to despair; persecuted, but not forsaken; struck down but not destroyed.”
I can’t give up. It may not seem fair but I will overcome this as long as I continue to persevere!
Maybe you can relate to how I felt above. It may seem like in life, things are just constantly going downhill and you want to ask yourself the same questions that I asked myself. But know that we serve a GOD who is both able AND capable of doing exceeding, abundantly more than we can ask or think. We MUST take comfort knowing that he’s pulled us through before and he’ll pull us through again. He’s done it for me and I know he will do it for you too!
I hope that this encourages you as it is continuing to encourage me.
